“Hill Street” Phase II (LA / DUB)

We are just back from Los Angeles . We had a great trip, worked hard and got some great footage. The objective of the trip was to shoot interviews and shoot B-Roll / GV footage.

We need to obviously extend the documentary feature length but importantly do so by initially adding context for viewers / audience who are not familiar with skateboarding so as to give them background and an intro to skateboarding origins and culture. We also wanted to interview profilic skaters who had visited Ireland and get their perspective. I think we succeded and we are delighted with what we got:)

The key interviews were as follows:-

Todd Huber from Skatelab
Alex Moul
Tony Hawk

Todd Huber is from Skatelab. Based in Simi Valley this is a large indoor park which also houses a skate museum and a Skateboard Hall of Fame. Todd is the co-owner, a skater and a super nice guy. He is really passionate about collecting skateboards / related memorabilia and knows the history of the skating in great depth. We shot a sit down interview with him and also walked around the museum speaking about the evolution of skating. The walls of the place are just lined with classic decks from all era’s, signed pro boards and photos, skate movie posters and mag covers etc etc etc. They even have a few 720 arcade machines.

Our second interview involved a trip to sunny Orange County to interview Alex Moul. I have fond memories of him blowing minds when he visited with his street skating. Again super nice guy and did a great interview despite being somewhat under the weather from previous night festivities We followed up with him pulling out all his old decks, this will definitely be worth uploading at some point in it’s own right. Alex incidentally was sporting a Movember tache in case your thinking wha’???

The last interview was with a little known up and comer by the name of Tony Hawk. We drove a few hours south of LA to his offices where the HuckJam ramp is now installed. It was quite the experience to meet such an idol and also find out how mellow and pleasant he was. He did a fantastic interview and has an unreal memory and is super sharp to boot. We finished the interview, took some snaps, got some Boarderco decks signed and drove away smiling )

Boarderco Collab Deck Giveaway

Wayne Gallagher from BoarderCo created this great “Hill Street” collaboration deck. The graphic skeleton is from one of Clive’s original stickers that he had painstakingly redrawn and people are stoked. The top of the deck has logos and some quotes from the film (again Wayne’s idea) We have a few (2 or maybe even 3) to give away (you choose the size 7:75/ 8:0/8:125/8:50) On our Facebook group share the competition status on your timeline for a chance to win – we will pick winners in a few days.

Boarderco / Hill Street Collab Boards Arrived

Just back from holidays to a pleasant surprise – the Boarderco “Hill Street” Collaboration Decks are ready and Wayne has taken delivery. Picking them up tomorrow and will give a few away. Pic here from Wayne (thanks Wayne!)

A wee bit o’ Funding and BoarderCo Collab

Been busy of late so this post is long overdue (although I do keep the Facebook Page updated with brief updates as they happen). There are two key events worth mentioning. The first is that the Irish Film Boardhave provided us with funding to extend the documentary from 47 to 80 minutes. We are delighted with this result as it will allow us to do things we had always planned to do but never had the resources. We plan to complete the shooting schedule this side of Xmas.

The second thing worth mentioning is we are doing a collaboration deck with Wayne Gallaghers company Boarderco. The graphic is an old school sticker from Clive’s shop back in the day and should be ready around the end of the August.

Brief non-Update

Had a good few emails this week as to where the film is / can be seen / bought etc etc We have some final applications going on where we might get funding to do more otherwise we will go ahead and release it on several platforms. The final decision eitherway will be end of June. Thanks for everyones interest and patience

JDIFF Premiere

We premiered the film 19.02.12 at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. We had a sold out screening of 350+ at Screen 9 in Cineworld. There was a great atmosphere and it was mind blowing to see the film on such a huge screen. The crowd really enjoyed it and there was skaters of all generations there and importantly many non skaters. Afterwards the festival had arranged a Q+A with Joel Conroy (Dir of surf movie ‘Waveriders’ amongst other things). Very nice guy and we had some great discussions afterward. Major thanks to JDIFF, Philip Kelly, Liam Ryan and of course Grainne Humphries

Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2012

“Hill Street” was selected for the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2012. Stoked! It screens on the 19.02.12 and tickets can be bought on the JDIFF website
